Our itinerary
- Thingvellir National Park
The first stop is Thingvellir National Park, which is beautiful and highly significant for Icelanders. We will enjoy the view over Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland and one of only two places on the whole planet, where you can see tectonic plates moving apart above the earth’s surface! It was also home to the oldest parliament in the modern world – Alþingi. From 930 AD until 1799 AD, Icelander’s general assembly gathered here to decide on common issues.
- Gullfoss waterfall
Gullfoss translates to the golden waterfall and is one of Iceland’s most iconic and recognizable waterfalls. The Hvítá River flows from the Langjökull Glacier through 32m high cascades and a majestic canyon creating an unforgettable landscape. From our guides, you will learn how the tremendous efforts of a young girl from the area saved this waterfall in the early 19th century.
- Geysir
This geothermally active area has been known by locals for centuries but also left its mark on the international community, which you will learn about on this trip. Here we will admire the Strokkur geyser, which shoots a stream of hot water 30 to 50 meters high! You will also learn about the history of traditional Viking wrestling.
- Kerid volcano crater
Let’s walk around the rim of the 250m wide and 50m high volcano crater together. Please don’t worry; the last eruption occurred 6500 years ago, leaving this majestic red crater for us to enjoy peacefully. That will be an introduction to Icelandic volcanos, and your tour guide will tell you more about the importance of natural phenomena of this kind for Icelandic tourism and the production of fizzy beverages on the island.
